Another cracker of a weekend with the sun shining down on our Bluetongues! Enjoy this edition of the Weekend Wrap.
Playing on what felt like an early Spring Sunday afternoon, the Over 55 Legends returned to Alphington Park to take on Regent. An even first half saw the score at 1-1 at half time. The Bluetongues lifted their intensity in the second half against good opposition, and we ended up winning 5-3. The whole team worked hard, supporting each other, and we now have a nice run of 3 wins in a row.
On a bright Sunday morning Alphington U/10 Boys Blue traveled to Balfi Park to take on the Brunswick Zebras. After an even first half , with chances at both ends, the Bluetongues were able to take a 1-2 advantage into the main break after some crisp finishing and strong build up play creating the scoring chances. Alphington focused their energy after the break towards pressuring the opposition when not in possession, and looking for the free man when breaking towards goal. Whilst Alphington put on another couple of goals, held possession and created many great chances, Brunswick managed to capitalise on their few opportunities and hold on for a 4-4 draw . Good effort Bluetongues :)
U/11 Boys came from behind against tough opposition to win 3-2. We passed the ball well all game but got a bit more speed on our ball movement in the 2nd half to really stretch Clifton Hill.
The U/10 Girls Blue were at home to the Brunswick Zebra’s. A tough first half with a few chances had the game at 0-0, but once the 2nd half began we created more shots on goal and eventually ran out 4-1 winners! Well done Bluetongue’s.
U/9 Boys Yellow played out a solid 1-1 draw today out at North Eltham. A bright start with the ball in attack meant we went ahead into the break. The second half was much more defensive but boys stuck to their jobs and got back in support to help each other. Another step in the right direction with another great team effort.
U/9 Boys Blue were unlucky with their finishing today. Banyule FC were lucky with theirs with most of their shots rolling over the line. We experimented with squad rotation today to ensure defenders had a chance to play attack and vice versa. Despite our best efforts we lost 2-6.
U/9 Boys White had an easy run against Melbourne Srbija. Great passing to play wide and cross back in gave us a lot of opportunities up forward. Boys stayed focused and worked hard coming out 14-0 winners.
The U/9 Girls played away at Brunswick city on a challenging pitch that was sporting some golf course style sand bunkers. They put up a great effort and showed awesome enthusiasm and effort.
U/8 Boys played Heidelberg Stars. This was a physical match with both teams tackling hard and 100% committed. First half was tight but Bluetongues scored 2 goals and led at HT. 2nd half we dominated the possession and had plenty of shots but were unable to add to the scoring. final result 2-0 win and team confidence is building weekly.
U/10 Girls Yellow played a physical Clifton Hill away. The entire squad contributed, with loads of quality passes, great positioning and giving themselves plenty of space to receive through balls. Great forward play, defending and teamwork set up an impressive 4-0 win.
Senior Men: Alphington FC 1 v Meadow Park SC 3
Team played well against 2nd on the ladder. On another day the result could have gone the other way.
Reserves: Alphington FC 1 v Meadow Park SC 0
Great win by our ressies. A strong team effort saw us take the 3 points.
O45s had a Saturday evening clash against table topping Champs the Melbourne Knights An enjoyable hard fought contest saw a stale mate toothless 😂 0-0 draw at half time. The Knights turned up the pressure in the second half and scored with 15 mins remaining. Alphington saw a couple of fizzers go wide late on but unfortunately couldn’t peg one back. A galliant contested 1-0 loss!
The U/15 boys suffered a really frustrating 2-0 defeat at home to Glen Waverley on Sunday afternoon. The boys dominated the midfield but neither side really threatened each other’s goalkeepers in the first half until the opposition scored from a deflected corner just before half time. The Bluetongues stepped up their attacking movement in the second half but just couldn’t carve out the clear chances to match their dominance in possession. Our boys spent most of the last 15 minutes in or around the opposition penalty area, but as we threw more players forward for set pieces in search of an equaliser, we were eventually picked off for a breakaway goal to kill off the match.
A big thanks to our stand-in referee from the seniors.
Thanks for reading – have a great week! GO BLUETONGUES! 🔵🟡⚽️🦎
