Senior Men: Alphington FC 0 – Moreland Eagles 3
A disappointing loss to finish the season, however the team played with their never say die attitude like they have done all season.
Reserves: Alphington FC 4 – Moreland Eagles 0
Fantastic effort by our 2nds finishing the season with 5 wins in a row and 40 points. Congratulations!
U/9 Boys Blue: Everything came together today, teamwork, tackling, passing and goals!! 8-1 was the final score and the boys ended the season on a massive high and excited for next season!!
U/11 Boys hosted Glenroy, who were affected by illness and could only field 5 players. We evened up the numbers and had a fun kickabout which our boys won 5-3 (despite, or perhaps, because, some older siblings turned out for Glenroy).
U/9 Boys White: Such a good game to end the season on! That was a very physical (and fair) Brunswick team that was undefeated this season. They had good structure and their defenders liked contact so it was great to see the boys passing and dribbling through them. We had the better of it overall but a 1:1 draw was a fair result in the end. Congratulations to the boys on a very good season, their hard work has shown in their overall growth and it was a genuine pleasure to get to interact with them every week!
Last game of the season for U/10 Girls Blue against a much-improved Yarra Jets at their home ground. The girls played with cohesion, confidence and panache to run away 8-1 victors. A big thank you to all involved with the team this year, the girls and the broader Bluetongues community. Looking forward to celebrating a wonderful year at next week’s Fireworks.
U/9 Boys Yellow closed out the year with the most exciting game we’ve seen this season. 0-0 draw but it was full of end to end football, amazing saves, great passing and shots hitting the bar. Development of all the boys on show as we’d lost 4-1 earlier in the year to the same team. Capped off a great season. Well done boys!
On a beautiful Sunday morning Alphington U/10 Boys Blue travelled to Fitzroy Lions to play their last fixture of the season. In a tightly contested first half both teams shared the spoils going into the break 1-1. After halftime the emphasis was to improve closing down of space in the midfield and work on building our attacking play though the wings. Despite a strong second half and some excellent combination play a scrappy goal conceded decided a hardly fought match, 1-2 the final score. Well done boys on a fantastic season. Go Bluetongues!
U/8 Boys travelled to Clifton Hill – a superb team performance to end a fantastic first season. After losing the first goal , we roared back and took the lead before halftime. 2nd half we were the stronger team and scored 2 more to finish 4-1 winners. The season’s objectives were to develop both individual and team confidence and we’ve seen it flourish over the past few weeks. Well done Alphington U/8s, you’ve smashed it this year! Go Bluetongues!
U/9 Girls faced a challenging Pascoe Vale team at home for their last game of the season. Playing against a team that were physically imposing, proved hard to negotiate and was another great learning curve for the girls. They adapted well, changed game styles and continued to learn along the way. Thank you girls for a fantastic season full of such enthusiastic energy.
With the season done and dusted the U/10 Boys Yellow can walk away with their heads held high! From day one the goal was to improve as a team and individually and there is no doubt that every player has done that, well done boy’s! 👏Today’s home game against Heidelberg Stars was a very solid game, strong tackling and both teams pressuring with not much space to play. Our boys started well but Heidelberg scored 2 goals against the run of play and finished the first half up 2-0. The 2nd half was played exactly like the first as both teams created chances and Alphington managed to get one with a goal that would of have been goal of the week. The Yellows went all out on attack with changing to 3 up front but couldn’t get the equaliser and went down 2-1.
U/12 Girls Yellow played Kensington FC away in what was anticipated to be a closely matched last game of the season and it did not disappoint. Yellow burst out of the gates, dominating the first half with a relentless barrage of shots on goal. Their determined defense swiftly snuffed out any opposition counterattacks, making for a thrilling contest. At halftime, Yellow held a well-deserved 1-0 lead. The opposition refused to back down in the second half, launching a fierce fightback that tested Yellow’s defense repeatedly. Despite absorbing the pressure, Yellow continued to create scoring chances, but a late strike from Kensington leveled the score at 1-1. Undeterred, Yellow rallied again, but unfortunately time ran out, and the match ended in a hard-fought 1-1 draw.
The Over 55 Legends came up against a very determined Croydon at Alphington Park on a warm spring Saturday afternoon. The team struggled to get going for any sustained period of time, and Croydon was physical and strong in the contest. Having said that, the Legends scored 2 nice goals, and the final result of 2-2 was a fair reflection of the game. The Legends are currently in 3rd place, and our final 2 games of the season will be good challenges as we play the top 2 teams.
Thanks for reading – have a great week! See you at Fireworks 🎆 night on Friday. GO BLUETONGUES! 🔵🟡⚽️🦎
